News: Research Beyond the Lab - Our new course offering in the spring term
This course teaches engineers how to design and implement research outside of a laboratory setting, and to communicate results using tools for Open Science.
Students conduct their research in the City of Zurich, where we collaborate with Entsorgung & Recycling Zurich (ERZ) to access the content of public bins. Students characterise the waste for its components and use questionnaires to learn more about the behaviour and attitudes of people around these public spaces.
We focus on building competencies for reproducible research on the technical and analytical sides. We teach how to use R Tidyverse packages to work with data and git and GitHub as version control and collaboration tools. Open Science is a theme throughout the entire course.
All developed teaching material is published under open and permissive licenses. If you want to learn more, check out
